David Chorney

David A. Chorney is an associate in Barrett & Singal’s Health Law practice where he provides services and consultations to many different healthcare providers, including hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, home health agencies, physician groups, assisted living residences, and ambulatory surgery centers. He has advised clients on medical peer review issues, hospital operations, policies and procedures, the acquisition of a nursing home facility, Board of Registration in Medicine investigations, and reviewed contracts related to employment/staffing, managed care, electronic health records systems, affiliations and joint ventures, and medical education.

David also provides general business and corporate legal services on a wide range of issues, such as day-to-day business strategy; regulatory and corporate compliance; vendor contracting; HIPAA; medical staff credentialing; healthcare fraud and abuse; antitrust; contracting; and employment law. His experience includes transactional matters, mergers and acquisitions, and taxable and tax exempt financing.

Professional Background

Prior to becoming an attorney, David worked as a law clerk at Barrett & Singal, where he served as the lead law clerk on transactional matters such as the acquisition of a large managed care organization and securing tax exempt bond refinancing for tax exempt entities. While at DBS he also helped to draft employer handbooks and policies and worked collaboratively with attorneys to provide legal advice related to employer, physician, and hospitals obligations under the Affordable Care Act.

In 2014, David was a Rappaport Legal Fellow in Governor Deval Patrick’s Office of Legal Counsel where he drafted and analyzed issues related to health care regulations, including regulations related to Masshealth, dentistry, and pharmacy, drafted Executive Orders and agency testimony for legislative hearings, analyzed legal and policy issues related to the Commonwealth’s opioid crisis and the implementation of medical marijuana licensing and dispensaries.

Civic & Charitable Activities

David has been a member of the Lawyers Have Heart Executive Leadership Committee since 2016, and a Greater Boston Legal Associates Drive Captain for since 2017.
He previously served as a member of Good Sports Young Professionals Board. In 2014 David ran the Boston Marathon to raise money for and to promote City Year of Boston.

Off The Record

David is an avid runner who competed in Cross-Country and Track and Field for Muhlenberg College where he was awarded All-American honors. In the spring of 2015, he was inducted into the Muhlenberg College Hall of Fame in recognition of his collegiate running accomplishments. David continues to enjoy running as a member of the Boston Athletic Association and can often be found running along the Charles River training for an upcoming race or running through the woods of New Hampshire where he also likes to hike and ski.
