Megan Smith-Mady is an associate attorney with the firm’s Health Law practice, where she assists and counsels healthcare providers including teaching and community hospitals, rehabilitation and long-term care hospitals, behavioral health providers, healthcare systems, community health centers, skilled care facilities, assisted living residences and other elder care providers, medical technology providers, EMS providers, allied health professionals, clinics, hospices, and home health agencies.
Megan advises healthcare providers on a variety of state and federal regulatory matters governed by such agencies as the Department of Public Health (DPH), the Health Policy Commission, the Office of Medicaid (MassHealth), the Department of Mental Health, the Executive Office of Health and Human Services, the Office of the Attorney General, the Executive Office of Elder Affairs, and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Megan also has experience with the False Claims Act, Anti-Kickback Statute, and Stark Law.
Prior to joining Barrett & Singal, Megan worked at a Boston law firm practicing healthcare litigation, where she investigated and litigated claims of healthcare fraud alleged by whistleblowers. She also represented clients in medical malpractice and products liability litigation. During law school, Megan completed internships at Massachusetts state agencies, including the Massachusetts Health Connector and the Center for Health Information and Analysis. In those roles, she gained experience with various federal and state healthcare regulations, particularly involving data privacy and security.
Prior to law school, Megan worked in the healthcare industry as a Patient Care Technician in an Emergency Department designated by the ACS as a Level 1 Adult Trauma Center.
